I’ll be giving a talk today at the Department of Government at the University of Essex about the intersection of politics and risk in mega-events, with a particular view to London 2012. With the unveiling of controversial Olympic security plans and concerns about the capacity of border controls at London Heathrow Airport this summer, the talk hopefully will touch upon a number of live issues about why elected policy-makers get involved in these high risk projects and how they attempt to cope with uncertainty.
